<figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1024/1*husRsLT9Bzi00Ir0rUzKfA.jpeg" /></figure><p>The LEVER token experienced significant market volatility at approx. 04:45 UTC on Wednesday 12 June, decreasing up to 40% in a short span of two hours.</p><p>In order to provide clarity for the LEVER community, we have worked tirelessly with our market partners to investigate and uncover the possibilities behind this volatility. We offer up the findings from our investigations for our community to help users understand how the volatility had occurred.</p><h3>No Security or Smart Contract Vulnerabilities</h3><p>The first check in our investigation is whether there has been a security or token smart contract breach.</p><p>We have confirmed on all technical levels internally, along with our developer and audit partners, that the token contract is safe and was not manipulated.</p><p>The market volatility was therefore not due to any protocol or smart contract security breaches. This suggests that the market volatility was most likely caused by market-related actions.</p><h3>Short Selling Manipulation The Most Probable Cause</h3><p>Our investigation point to a speculative short selling attack that seeks to manipulate LEVER on Binance Futures as the most likely cause of the volatility.</p><figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/993/1*msMt5B08EM1puH929gaEBQ.png" /></figure><p>In the days leading up to the sudden volatility, LEVER had exhibited strength and positive dynamics relative to BTC across all trading markets. We therefore dived deeper into the trading data to understand why the drop had occurred so suddenly.</p><p>To do this, the buy and sell statistics were analyzed for three trading venues where the volumes were the highest: (i) Binance Spot, (ii) Binance Futures, and (iii) Bithumb.</p><p><strong>It was found that Binance Futures demonstrated completely different dynamics compared to Binance Spot and Bithumb.</strong></p><p>Sell and buy volumes were comparable on Binance Spot and Bithumb, and number of buy transactions exceeded sell transactions in aggregate, which indicates that spot traders / holders were interacting naturally in a healthy and positive spot trading market.</p><p>In contrast, sell transactions dominated the Binance Futures market. Traders were only shorting, and very aggressively, on Binance Futures. This is observed in the buy/sell trading volumes between Binance Spot, Binance Futures and Bithumb shown below, which painted strikingly different volume profiles.</p><p>We therefore concluded that the market volatility is highly likely to be driven by a speculative large player or trading cartel seeking to manipulate the LEVER trading markets via Futures (which only require USDT margining to sell), and is not caused by holders exiting from the spot market.</p><p>While it is remains unknown why these traders / cartel had chose to target LEVER with their malicious trading actions, the unfortunate outcome is that they had succeeded, to the detriment to the LEVER community.</p><figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/782/1*6O4E0J2ZbndnaOcURnovDA.png" /></figure><figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/836/1*u_KKb7D_6ZxXrjPoSIfKaA.png" /></figure><figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/820/1*OwvMwX9fyBsw8JMSmRNKnQ.png" /></figure><h3>Mitigation and Community Support Plans</h3><p>The above investigation findings have been shared with our exchange partners, who have access to more data (including KYC and account activity details), and they may take action against the perpetrators on their discretion. We hope that by doing so, we can minimize the impact from this incident, and prevent future incidents.</p><p>Notwithstanding this incident, we remain committed to building and delivering value to the LeverFi community. <figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1024/1*PXLiRdf1AnjrEcGH4erR_g.jpeg" /></figure><p>Today, we are excited to release the OmniRelayer and User Delegation Program for the OmniZK protocol, the first and leading secure validation layer for scaling Bitcoin.</p><p>The OmniRelayer and User Delegation Program is focused around fulfilling three key objectives for the OmniZK network:</p><h4><strong>(A) Security</strong></h4><ul><li>OmniRelayers secure the network by operating the validation software for secure contract signings.</li><li>Remote attestations are required to ensure that operator code integrity is upheld.</li></ul><h4><strong>(B) Functionality</strong></h4><ul><li>OmniRelayers nodes are further split into two defined operator roles: (i) OmniWatchers and (ii) OmniSigners.</li><li>OmniWatchers listen for on-chain events and generate proofs for event outcomes using the zkOracles framework. <h3>OmniZK: A Secure Validation Protocol That Expands Scalability, Logic Construction and Interoperability for Bitcoin</h3><figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1024/1*BPmARK8YcPfPZGoOEDgKVA.jpeg" /></figure><p>We are excited to release the OmniZK Protocol, a secure validation protocol that expands scalability, logic construction and interoperability for Bitcoin.</p><h3>Limitation of Bitcoin</h3><p>Before we understand why OmniZK is needed, we first need to understand the limitation of Bitcoin in contrast to a Turing-complete platform like Ethereum.</p><p>Bitcoin Script is Turing-incomplete and lacks the expressive logic required to support complex computations, event handling and state updates. This does not mean that Bitcoin is flawed. For Bitcoin, being Turing-incomplete is a feature (not a bug) that improves predictable execution and consistent consensus on Bitcoin.</p><p>Nonetheless, this limitation also makes the development of native DeFi on Bitcoin highly challenging. The experience for DeFi developers going from Ethereum to Bitcoin is akin to someone who uses Excel Sheets daily, to suddenly be left with only pen and paper to do their work.</p><h3>Expanding Scalability, Logic Construction and Interoperability for Bitcoin</h3><p>OmniZK addresses this gap by providing secure validation for the Bitcoin network that allows developers to shift complex computations onto any EVM layer, and relay the final event outcomes back to the Bitcoin network to conduct native settlements.</p><p>OmniZK is modularly designed for developers to construct conditional, non-custodial Discreet Log Contracts (DLCs) on Bitcoin that are secured by event proofs generated by zkOracles. <figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1024/1*LOh_hK4qrvyVfvld86jwIQ.jpeg" /></figure><p>Users who staked LEVER tokens have earned LVR as part of their participation, with the first staking epoch completed.</p><h3>LVR: A Privileges Enhancement Token</h3><p>Currently, LEVER holders can participate in high potential project launches on LeverPro by staking LEVER.</p><p>However, due to high demand from outstanding project launches, with the lastest launch of ORNJ delivering +1,400+% return, the allocation for new projects are always high competitive.</p><p>Hence, LEVER holders who stake are given allocations based on a Lucky Draw Lottery System, and not everyone is guaranteed an allocation.</p><p>This is where LVR comes into play. LVR confers additional launchpad privileges for LeverPro participants (subject to a minimum staking of 5,000,000 xLEVER at snapshot), specifically:</p><p>(a) guaranteed / priority allocations of Golden Tickets; and</p><p>(b) Top of the range allocation sizes for new project launches on LeverPro.</p><p>This means that LVR provides an <strong>enhancement option </strong>for users to access exclusive features on the LeverPro launchpad.</p><h3>Launch of LVR on BRC20</h3><p>Following completion of the first LVR staking epoch, users who have earned LVR will be able to claim LVR on the LeverPro Launch Portal.</p><p>LVR is issued on the BRC20 network.
